This year we are taking a hiatus after our 20th anniversary to reconfigure and restructure. We are already planning for 2017 and look forward to your entries!
For 2016, we will be holding several intra-club home brewing competitions. Each competition will focus on one style and will use a single standard recipe.
The beer style for our first competition will be Kolsch. The recipe that we will be using is the clone recipe for Long Trail Brewing Company’s Long Trail Kolsch taken from the North American Clone Brews book. The recipe contains all grain, partial mash and all extract instructions so that brewers from all levels can participate. The recipe lists a couple of yeast options which are all fine to use. We have also secured a good amount of yeast slurry from Tequesta Brewing from their Der Chancellor Kolsch. If you would like to use that yeast, please let me know so that we can get some to you.
Judging for this competition will be held at our March meeting which will be Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Twisted Trunk Brewing. Each competition entry will require three 12 oz. bottles however, all entrants are encouraged to bring extra so that all in attendance can try your delicious brew. Prizes and undying adulation will be heaped on the winner. You must however, be a paid club member for 2016 to participate.
If you have any questions or need any additional information, just let us know.
This year’s Oktoberfest will be on Saturday, October 17th from 12:00 – 6:00 pm at the Tuskeegee Pavilion in Okeeheelee Park. Once again it will feature all you can eat (brats, ribs, pulled pork, brisket, chicken) and drink (both homebrew and commercial), live music by Steven Vincent, games (keg toss, stein holding, chicken dance) and the raffle.
Ticket prices are $25.00 for club members and $30.00 for non-members.
See you there!
This month’s meeting will be at the Twisted Trunk on Saturday the 12th at 11:00 AM.
See you there!
Congratulations to all of our medal winners and a huge ‘Thank You’ to all of our judges, stewards and volunteers. Judging went on well into the afternoon, but our volunteers are made of stern stuff and got it done! The celebration started soon after, with plenty of donated and homebrewed beer along with an amazing buffet.
Special thanks to Dale and Debbie, who once again let us invade El Encanto.
Since 1991, the mission of the Palm Beach Draughtsmen homebrew club has been to promote the art and science of brewing beers, meads and ciders. We are based in the West Palm Beach area and welcome all who are interested in expanding their homebrewing knowledge. We have a monthly meeting (except in December), which covers club business and includes a beer, mead or cider-related educational topic. We also convene for a monthly hoppy hour at good beer establishments on the 3rd Friday of most months, although this will be changing for ’13 to include meeting at folks’ houses, group brew sessions and a pub crawl. Of course, we always manage to find time for socializing and tasting each others’ brews! We host three annual events – The Hurricane Blowoff homebrew competition in April , a Seafood Feastival in July and an Octoberfest during mid-October. We also have various club brew sessions, participate in teach a friend to homebrew day, national homebrew and mead day, and have occasional pubcrawls. So check us out; becoming a Draughtsmen includes the following benefits:
10% off on homebrew supplies at BX Beer Depot and The Funky Buddha Hombrew Shops.
Reduced Pricing on club events, such as the Hurricane Blowoff awards party.
Your first two beer, mead or cider/perry entries are free for the Hurricane Blowoff Competition.
A free PBD glass (in the design phase).
Cheers & Beers!
